It was observed by the members and philanthropists of the Al-Barkaat Educational Society that a large number of children have not been getting quality education on account of their poor financial background. It has also been observed that many intelligent and talented students do not succeed owing to the unavailability of quality education. As a result smart and talented students get deviated towards other activities and spoil their career.
Al-Barkaat Afternoon School is the first ever primary school in Aligarh which provides quality education to the economically backward sections of the society as its philanthropic activities with all the facilities provided by any other public school. Along with basic education they study computers, moral science, cultural values and have access to the library and playgrounds. These children are the first generation learners, coming from a poor background of daily wagers, of unskilled/semi-skilled labourers, rickshaw pullers and petty shop owners with no access to basic amenities of life.

The 1st Academic Session began on 11th July 2011 with classes from Prep to V with the strength of 193 students. In 2014 Class Nursery and Class VI were introduced with the strength of 337. In 2015 and 2016 Class VII and VIII were introduced respectively. From class VI onwards we have a separate section for Boys and Girls. And this year class IX has been introduced. Now we are a proud family of 423 students and 20 teaching and non-teaching staff.

Features and Provisions

• Co-education, English medium and syllabus equivalent to CBSE Board is followed.
• Free books and notebooks are distributed to students.
• Free uniform for summer and winter are provided.
• Rs. 100 a month is charged to inculcate the feeling of self-respect and confidence in them.
• Students also enjoy the facilities of library, computer lab, science lab, playground and cafeteria.
• Periodically refreshment is provided to students.

Efforts for Personality Development

• The school cherishes sensible parenting and caring of the students.
• There is continuous assessment and reporting to the parents regarding the academic performance and rate of improvement.
• Games and sports are an integral part of a student’s life. A student should study hard to be successful in competitive examinations. But, he should also play games and sports in order to enjoy health and vigour of life. Hence playground is provided to them where they can develop their mental and physical health.
• Afternoon school annually organizes Art and Craft exhibition to showcase the talent of our budding artists.
• To develop their literary and cultural talents and sportsmanship, the school organizes annual school functions and annual sports day regularly.
• The school organizes health and dental hygiene camps.
• Inter house co-curricular activities like English and Hindi recitation competitions, writing competitions, poster making competitions, drawing competitions, quizzes and speech competitions are organized regularly.
